Robin Dickinson from Radsmarts blog recently posted an amazing video (TED.com is the original source of the material), on “How remarkable people succeed – in 3 minutes.”
Richard St. John condenses 7 years of research and 500 interviews into an amazing 3-minute slideshow on the real secrets of success. Why do people succeed? If you want to know the answer, keep reading and watch this amazing video. These 3 minutes can inspire and change your life.
1- PASSION
Do it for love not for money. If you do it for love the money comes anyway.
2- WORK
It´s all hard work. Nothing comes easily. But I have a lot of fun.
3- GOOD
To be successful put your nose down in something and get damn good at it. There is no magic, is practice, practice, practice.
4- FOCUS
I think it all has to do with focusing yourself to one thing.
5- PUSH
Push yourself. Physically, mentally you gotta push, push, push.
You have to push without shyness and self-doubt. I always had self doubts. I wasn´t good enough, I wasn´t smart enough. I didn´t think I´d make it.
It´s not always easy to push yourself. That´s why they invented mothers. My mother pushed me.
6- SERVE
It was a privilege to serve as a doctor. Millionaires serve others something of value. That´s the way people really get rich.
7- IDEAS
I had an idea founding the first micro-computer software company.
8- PERSIST
Persistence is the number one reason for our success. You gotta persist through failure. You gotta persist through CRAP! Which of course means “Criticism, Rejection, Assholes and Pressure.”
Richard St. John’s books on success:
What do you think about these 8 words? What would you add to that list? Please, share your thoughts and ideas.

Still one of my favorite TED talks. I would only add don’t expect it to happen all at once. That was the whole point of the practice practice practice. As long as you get just a little better each time, you will grow, and the little bits will add up.

Yes Sean, this short video es really inspirational. I’m glad you like it.
Justin, you are absolutely right: we have to get better step by step :). This is the key: less is more. we don’t have to feel overwhelmed or intimidated with all these tips /advice. We should simplify and focus on one thing at a time.
Thanks Sean & Justin for your comments.

8 words of success, I agree with all of them. However, most of them are hard to implement. 🙂

Hi Walter and welcome to ilcantone.com 🙂
Yes, all these tips may seem overwhelming at first glance, but we should use them as a guide in our daily work and life. By doing so , we can improve the quality of our work, our relationship with friends and family and, thus, our life. All these lessons or principles can be applied to any sphere of business or life. That’s the great benefit of using these 8 words.
Thanks Walter for your comment.

David,
Sensational advice. The only thing I would say is that if you are in complete harmony with your purpose, it won’t feel much like work. I’ve spent more than a few 5:30 AM to midnight days doing what I do and I never complain. I’m in love with it. When you’re doing what you really want to do God speaks through you and it feels effortless.
You have one more twitter follower 🙂

Awesome post Dave! This can be applied to anything. With blogging if you are passionate about it it will come easy to you and it will be fun. Don’t worry about the money it will come in time. You need to enjoy what you are doing be persistant at it and you will succeed. Its not all about the money.
I love to work out. At times though I hit place where I dont see results. To get over that I push myself as much as I can. You need to do this to get to the next level.
Thanks for the inspiring post!

How great that you posted this video! I saw it quite a while ago and just recently I remembered and wanted to see it again. But I couldn’t remember the title or the name of the guy doing the presentation. So I’m really glad that I found this here again.
It’s just such a well-done presentation, I really love it. Richard St. John also did a follow-up presentation to this one “Success is a continuous journey”. Not quite as impactful as this one, but also worth seeing.
Thanks for posting this!

Awesome!
Like someone else commented here, I am not too much for these “quick fix” stories, but this was a great summary of, what I too believ, are ways to success. And also, as mentioned in a comment, I’m a firm believer that when you’re in contact with spirit, real contact, you’re provided with the right ways to go and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a struggle.
I must say, you have done very well creating this inspiring site!

Hi Maria and welcome to ilcantone.com
I love what you said: “When you are in contact with spirit, real contact, you are provided with the right ways to go and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a struggle.” Great! it’s very inspirational.
It’s the fire inside of each one of us that gives us the courage to keep fighting, to keep trying to achieve our dreams. Wow, this moved me immensely.
Thanks a lot Maria for your comment and for your kind words.

This video is great! Thank you for sharing. The best definition of success that I have found is from John Maxwell and he says: “Success is, knowing your purpose in life, growing to our maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others”
I do believe that it takes all 8 of the characteristics that he mentioned.(at the very least) All are a crucial factor for success
